This symposium will consider how design-led social innovation might productively open up new directions and spaces for design practice, education and research in Ireland. The symposium will mark the launch of a DESIS lab in Ireland.
This is a collaboration between Dublin Institute of Technology, University of Limerick and NCAD
and is being supported as part of ID2015.
The symposium will mark the launch of a new
DESIS Lab (Design for Social Innovation towards Sustainability) in Ireland
DESIS is a “network of design labs, based in design schools and design-oriented universities, actively involved in promoting and supporting sustainable change”. This DESIS Lab will be a joint collaboration between Dublin Institute of Technology, University
of Limerick and National College of Art and design.
Each of the institutions has experience and interest in design teaching and research related to social innovation. The DESIS Lab will act as a new community of practice in Ireland for teaching and research on design for social innovation and it will be a mechanism and platform for future collaborations.
Establishing a DESIS Lab in Ireland will allow Irish institutions to connect into the international DESIS network that involves leading design schools such
as Parsons New York, Northumbria School of Design, Royal College of Art, Politecnico di Milano.
